{"id":16096,"date":"2012-02-16T17:46:45","date_gmt":"2012-02-16T22:46:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.nejm.org\/cardioexchange\/?post_type=news&#038;p=16096"},"modified":"2012-02-16T17:46:45","modified_gmt":"2012-02-16T22:46:45","slug":"japanese-researcher-with-harvard-connections-retracts-3-articles-in-aha-journals","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.nejm.org\/cardioexchange\/2012\/02\/16\/japanese-researcher-with-harvard-connections-retracts-3-articles-in-aha-journals\/","title":{"rendered":"Japanese Researcher with Harvard Connections Retracts 3 Articles in AHA Journals"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Akio Kawakami, a well-published lipid researcher at Tokyo Medical and Dental University, has retracted three papers from AHA journals, including one article in the AHA&#8217;s flagship journal\u00a0<em><a href=\"http:\/\/circ.ahajournals.org\/content\/125\/6\/e362.full\">Circulation<\/a>.<\/em>\u00a0The two other retractions were for articles in\u00a0<em><a href=\"http:\/\/circres.ahajournals.org\/content\/103\/12\/1402.abstract?sid=eec7d120-b01a-4e88-8178-03ccad5ddc05\">Circulation Research<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>and<em>\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/atvb.ahajournals.org\/content\/30\/11\/2242.full\">Arteriosclerosis, Thrombosis, and Vascular Biology<\/a>.\u00a0<\/em>News of the retractions was\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/retractionwatch.wordpress.com\/2012\/02\/15\/circulation-retracts-lipid-paper-over-negligent-record-keeping\/\">first reported on\u00a0<\/a><em><a href=\"http:\/\/retractionwatch.wordpress.com\/2012\/02\/15\/circulation-retracts-lipid-paper-over-negligent-record-keeping\/\"><em>Retraction Watch.<\/em><\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><\/em>Two of Kawakami&#8217;s co-authors are well known researchers affiliated with Harvard University and the Brigham and Women&#8217;s Hospital, Peter Libby and Frank Sacks.\u00a0Prior to his position in Tokyo, Kawakami had been at the Harvard School of Public Health in the Department of Nutrition, where Sacks also works. Sacks is a co-author on all three of the retracted papers, while Peter Libby is a co-author on one.
