{"id":3197,"date":"2010-09-13T13:23:16","date_gmt":"2010-09-13T17:23:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.nejm.org\/cardioexchange\/?p=3197"},"modified":"2011-07-19T17:44:11","modified_gmt":"2011-07-19T21:44:11","slug":"fellowship-training-around-the-world","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.nejm.org\/cardioexchange\/2010\/09\/13\/fellowship-training-around-the-world\/","title":{"rendered":"Fellowship Training Around the World"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In<span style=\"color: #000000;\"> the last of a ser<\/span>ies of posts from the ESC meetings, Susan Cheng offered some interesting insights into differences between the ESC and the large U.S. meetings such as AHA and ACC<span style=\"color: #000000;\">, including ma<\/span>jor differences in <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.nejm.org\/cardioexchange\/esc-similarities-and-differences\/\">how research is funded and performed in countries outside the U.S.<\/a> <span style=\"color: #000000;\">Comoderator Andy Kates and I started th<\/span>inking about\u00a0how the training of cardio<span style=\"color: #000000;\">logists also v<\/span>aries across countries. In the U.S., the &#8220;format&#8221; of clinical training for cardiovascular specialists is highly regulated (even over-regulated!) by the ACGME and ABIM <span style=\"color: #000000;\">and so is fairly similar across institution<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">s. However, it differs vastly from the training formats in many other count<\/span>ries.
