Something we can do better through the scientific community. It starts with the will \u2013 and a focus on societal good. The \u2018how\u2019 is challenging \u2013 but the problems can be solved.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this week I gave a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/harlankrumholz\/2012\/10\/04\/a-plea-for-open-science-in-medicine\/\">talk<\/a>\u00a0at an Institute of Medicine workshop on this topic. I told the group:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Let\u2019s be clear about what is needed. We need to have studies published and summary results reported on clinicaltrials.gov \u2013 but that is not enough. We need to have individual patient-level data broadly available for investigators \u2013 not parsed out to selected individuals \u2013 but available broadly and freely.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>I invite CardioExchange members to read <a href=\"http:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/harlankrumholz\/2012\/10\/04\/a-plea-for-open-science-in-medicine\/\">the whole talk<\/a>&#8212; don&#8217;t worry,\u00a0it&#8217;s brief&#8211; and start a discussion here about this important subject.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I am still out pushing the cause of open science and data sharing.
