The FDA recommendation is based upon a recent analysis of data from the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nejm.org\/doi\/full\/10.1056\/NEJMoa1003114\">Sibutramine Cardiovascular Outcomes (SCOUT) trial<\/a>, in which patients taking sibutramine had a 16% increase in risk for cardiovascular events.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Abbott has pulled its weight-loss drug sibutramine (Meridia) from the U.S. market.
