how much of this is HIV-specific, and how much is just the ongoing lousy economy.\u00a0 In other words, are other government-funded programs comparably stressed?\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Headline:\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.webmd.com\/erectile-dysfunction\/news\/20100706\/men-on-ed-drugs-get-more-stds\" target=\"_blank\">Men on ED Drugs Get More STDs.<\/a>\u00a0 But read the fine print in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.annals.org\/content\/153\/1\/1.abstract\" target=\"_blank\">the actual\u00a0study<\/a> &#8212; the risk was greater the year <em>before<\/em> they received the prescription as well.\u00a0 Some serious confounding going on here, I bet.<\/li>\n<li>XMRV and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome?\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.retrovirology.com\/content\/7\/1\/57\" target=\"_blank\">CDC says no<\/a>; NIH says &#8230; <a href=\"http:\/\/online.wsj.com\/article\/SB10001424052748703374104575337160225739290.html\" target=\"_blank\">maybe<\/a>.\u00a0 You decide.<\/li>\n<li>Great review of the (nearly empty) HIV drug development pipeline <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aidsmeds.com\/articles\/hiv_pipeline_salvage_2042_18613.shtml\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a> &#8212; and I&#8217;m not saying that just because I make a small appearance towards the end!<\/li>\n<li>You mean taking the catheter out promptly <a href=\"http:\/\/www.journals.uchicago.edu\/doi\/abs\/10.1086\/653935\" target=\"_blank\">doesn&#8217;t improve the prognosis of patients with candidemia?\u00a0<\/a> Granted, it&#8217;s only one study, but it&#8217;s fairly large (n=842), and raises the question &#8212; how many other &#8220;rules&#8221; of ID consultation are not data driven?\u00a0 I suspect a lot.<\/li>\n<li>Uh-oh &#8230; first <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wickedlocal.com\/brookline\/news\/x43865064\/Brookline-following-reports-of-coyote-sightings\" target=\"_blank\">coyotes<\/a>, and now <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wickedlocal.com\/brookline\/features\/x1143336405\/Rabid-bat-found-in-Brookline\" target=\"_blank\">this<\/a>?\u00a0 A rabid bat in my home town?\u00a0 Perhaps I&#8217;ll <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.nejm.org\/index.php\/bats-in-the-bedroom-canadians-make-a-policy-change\/2010\/02\/02\/\" target=\"_blank\">move to Canada<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Stay cool, it&#8217;s hot out there!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Some ID\/HIV-related items for a sweltering summer day: Are the AIDS Drug Assistance Programs (ADAPs) in trouble?\u00a0\u00a0Certainly in some states they\u00a0are, and this interview gives additional perspective.\u00a0 But I wonder &#8212;
