{"id":1514,"date":"2011-04-09T07:42:55","date_gmt":"2011-04-09T11:42:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.nejm.org\/?p=1514"},"modified":"2015-06-04T15:23:46","modified_gmt":"2015-06-04T19:23:46","slug":"and-now-for-a-more-comprehensive-croi-report","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.nejm.org\/hiv-id-observations\/index.php\/and-now-for-a-more-comprehensive-croi-report\/2011\/04\/09\/","title":{"rendered":"And Now, for a More Comprehensive CROI Report &#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.nejm.org\/hiv-id-observations\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2011\/04\/1955-Topps-Yogi-Berra1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-1516\" title=\"1955 Topps Yogi Berra\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.nejm.org\/hiv-id-observations\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2011\/04\/1955-Topps-Yogi-Berra1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"221\" height=\"155\" \/><\/a>Although I&#8217;ve already provided a <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.nejm.org\/index.php\/really-rapid-review-of-croi-2011-and-no-croi-2012-dates\/2011\/03\/08\/\" target=\"_blank\">Really Rapid Review\u2122<\/a> of the 18th Conference on Retroviruses and Opportunistic Infections (CROI), the editors of Journal Watch\/AIDS Clinical Care have put together a more comprehensive summary <a href=\"http:\/\/aids-clinical-care.jwatch.org\/cgi\/content\/full\/2011\/404\/1\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>I sometimes wonder what research from these conferences will not only stand the test of time, but will grow in importance and be viewed one day as a landmark event.<\/p>\n<p>Past notable examples include the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nejm.org\/doi\/full\/10.1056\/NEJM199709113371102#t=article\">first triple-therapy study with indinavir<\/a> &#8212; which showed that virologic suppression could be <em>durable<\/em> &#8212; presented way back in 1996 at the 3rd CROI, and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nejm.org\/doi\/full\/10.1056\/NEJMoa0708975#t=article\" target=\"_blank\">phase III study of raltegravir<\/a> in patients with highly drug-resistant virus, presented 11 years later at CROI 14.<\/p>\n<p>My bet this time?\u00a0 While it&#8217;s notoriously <a href=\"http:\/\/www.famous-quotes-and-quotations.com\/yogi-berra-quotes.html\">tough to make predictions, especially about the future<\/a>, my vote goes to these <a href=\"http:\/\/aids-clinical-care.jwatch.org\/cgi\/content\/full\/2011\/404\/3\" target=\"_blank\">zinc finger nuclease<\/a> studies &#8212; which are part of a very concerted and growing effort to cure HIV.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Although I&#8217;ve already provided a Really Rapid Review\u2122 of the 18th Conference on Retroviruses and Opportunistic Infections (CROI), the editors of Journal Watch\/AIDS Clinical Care have put together a more comprehensive summary here.
