{"id":507,"date":"2009-09-12T11:24:43","date_gmt":"2009-09-12T16:24:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.nejm.org\/?p=507"},"modified":"2015-06-04T15:30:15","modified_gmt":"2015-06-04T19:30:15","slug":"49th-icaac-starts-today","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.nejm.org\/hiv-id-observations\/index.php\/49th-icaac-starts-today\/2009\/09\/12\/","title":{"rendered":"49th ICAAC Starts Today"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.nejm.org\/hiv-id-observations\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2009\/09\/logo-icaac-2009-small1.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-thumbnail wp-image-508\" title=\"logo-icaac-2009-small\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.nejm.org\/hiv-id-observations\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2009\/09\/logo-icaac-2009-small-150x1181.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"118\" \/><\/a>Browsing through the program book, I see these topics extensively covered:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>H1N1 and seasonal flu, in all their glory &#8212; transmission, pathogenesis, treatment, predictions<\/li>\n<li>Highly resistant GNR &#8212; acinetobacter, carbapenemases, ESBL, etc.<\/li>\n<li>MRSA &#8212; my <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.nejm.org\/index.php\/2008\/08\/22\/we-have-met-the-enemy-and-it-is-mrsa\/\" target=\"_blank\">personal favorite<\/a><\/li>\n<li>C diff &#8212; though perhaps a little less this year?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>While no one expects ICAAC to be an HIV-focused meeting, usually there are a <em>few <\/em>important papers presented &#8212; last year, for example, <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.nejm.org\/index.php\/2008\/11\/02\/the-big-hiv-news-from-icaacidsa\/\" target=\"_blank\">NA-ACCORD and raltegravir in treatment-naives<\/a> debuted at ICAAC.<\/p>\n<p>But unless I&#8217;m missing something, I don&#8217;t see anything this year on the HIV front of comparable importance.\u00a0 One year blip or a sign of the times?<\/p>\n<p>(FYI, the CDA &#8212; that&#8217;s the <a href=\"http:\/\/cda.org\/\">California Dental Association<\/a> &#8212; is also having a meeting here.\u00a0 Their meeting-goers have much better teeth than ID doctors\/microbiologists.)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Browsing through the program book, I see these topics extensively covered: H1N1 and seasonal flu, in all their glory &#8212; transmission, pathogenesis, treatment, predictions Highly resistant GNR &#8212; acinetobacter, carbapenemases, ESBL, etc. MRSA &#8212; my personal favorite C diff &#8212; though perhaps a little less this year?
