He&#8217;s also the Director of the Human Microbiome Project, and author of the book,\u00a0<em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Missing-Microbes-Overuse-Antibiotics-Fueling\/dp\/1250069270\/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&amp;ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1437266882&amp;sr=1-1&amp;keywords=martin+blaser+missing+microbes\">Missing Microbes: How the overuse of antibiotics is fueling our modern plagues.<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Marty has\u00a0been a long-time champion of the concept\u00a0that our normal bacterial flora strongly influence our health. (He prefers the term &#8220;microbiota&#8221;, for the record.) He\u00a0makes a compelling\u00a0case that the overuse of antibiotics over the years has contributed to several modern health epidemics, including obesity, allergic diseases, asthma, and celiac disease, along with some cancers.
