{"id":8114,"date":"2016-06-25T07:17:15","date_gmt":"2016-06-25T11:17:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.nejm.org\/hiv-id-observations\/?p=8114"},"modified":"2016-06-25T07:17:15","modified_gmt":"2016-06-25T11:17:15","slug":"id-cartoon-caption-contest-closed-time-vote","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.nejm.org\/hiv-id-observations\/index.php\/id-cartoon-caption-contest-closed-time-vote\/2016\/06\/25\/","title":{"rendered":"ID Cartoon Caption Contest Closed &#8212; Time to Vote"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The response to our First Ever <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.nejm.org\/hiv-id-observations\/index.php\/id-cartoon-caption-contest\/2016\/06\/19\/\" target=\"_blank\">ID Cartoon Caption Contest<\/a> was gratifyingly brisk, with hundreds of\u00a0entries.<\/p>\n<p>Not going to lie about this &#8212; we\u00a0were somewhat concerned the response would be silence &#8230; you know, as in &lt;&lt;crickets&gt;&gt; &#8230; but you readers proved very much up to the task, with numerous funny suggestions.<\/p>\n<p>Our sophisticated computer algorithm has gone through the submissions, and noted several\u00a0themes, specifically:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Pig-Pen.<\/li>\n<li>Colistin, KPCs, and other references to resistant bacteria.<\/li>\n<li>Fecal transplants.<\/li>\n<li>How hard (and messy) it is to be an intern, resident, or fellow, compared to the clean faculty members standing next to him.<\/li>\n<li>The ironic (and therefore funny!) contrast between the coat (dirty) and his hands (presumably washed) or tie (tucked in).<\/li>\n<li>References to historic names in ID\/microbiology (Lister, Petri, Semmelweis).<\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC2841828\/?report=reader\" target=\"_blank\">The Hygiene Hypothesis.<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<li>How being an ID (or GI, or Emergency Medicine) doctor, or Pediatrician,\u00a0can be a squalid\u00a0business.<\/li>\n<li>Puns\/word plays on medical terminology.
