And right now, the biggest reason for patients&#8217; stopping their HIV meds is financial, usually due to loss of or change in insurance.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bmj.com\/cgi\/content\/full\/340\/may18_2\/c2096?maxtoshow=&amp;hits=10&amp;RESULTFORMAT=&amp;fulltext=antibiotic&amp;searchid=1&amp;FIRSTINDEX=10&amp;sortspec=date&amp;resourcetype=HWCIT\" target=\"_blank\">This BMJ paper<\/a> showing that getting an antibiotic in the primary care setting increases the risk of resistance <em>in the person taking the antibiotic<\/em> should be distributed to every outpatient practice in the universe &#8212; and then be prominently posted in waiting rooms.<\/li>\n<li>More on the underutilized zoster vaccine <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2010\/06\/10\/health\/10chen.html?ref=health\" target=\"_blank\">in the <em>NY Times<\/em><\/a>.\u00a0Again, from my admittedly warped perspective as an ID doctor &#8212; one I&#8217;ve already confessed to <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.nejm.org\/index.php\/zoster-vaccine-underutilized\/2010\/05\/04\/\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a> &#8212; this is one adult immunization not to skip!\u00a0Biggest barrier? Who&#8217;s going to pay the $300 or so for the vaccine.\u00a0For an example of ironic journalistic juxtaposition,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/well.blogs.nytimes.com\/2010\/06\/09\/how-much-would-you-spend-on-a-sick-pet\/?src=me&amp;ref=health\" target=\"_blank\">an adjacent piece<\/a> cites\u00a0the hundreds (or even thousands) of dollars people might spend on the health of their\u00a0pet.<\/li>\n<li>Over on <em>KevinMD<\/em>,\u00a0here is a\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.kevinmd.com\/blog\/2010\/06\/talk-patients-emr-room.html\" target=\"_blank\">list of suggestions<\/a> for how to talk to\u00a0patients while using an electronic medical record.\u00a0Some good advice &#8212; but the bottom line is that something is lost when our attention is split between the patient and the glowing screen.\u00a0Just think about trying to get your kid&#8217;s attention while he\/she is on-line.\u00a0Or <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2010\/06\/10\/garden\/10childtech.html?src=me&amp;ref=homepage\" target=\"_blank\">vice-versa.<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Want to increase the nasty (as in raunchy) comments auto-posted on your blog?\u00a0\u00a0Easy, just include a <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.nejm.org\/index.php\/screening-for-anal-cancer-and-the-worlds-worst-job\/2010\/06\/02\/\" target=\"_blank\">few choice words<\/a> in your post&#8217;s title.\u00a0Let&#8217;s just say that our spam filter has been busier than usual recently.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Hey, peak Lyme season is here &#8212; watch out everyone, hungry ticks are everywhere!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Some quick ID\/HIV\/other thoughts while we marvel in all that is Strasburgian: Did you know that HIV\u00a0medication adherence improves over time?\u00a0So much for &#8220;pill fatigue.&#8221;\u00a0By the way, this anecdotally fits with my experience as well.
